The season opening game for this years MSL campaign came vs. BG, at Celtic Park, as part of the first annual MSL Showcase (and event designed to have all MSL schools play at one site, and where we hope to have college coaches attend, to provide all of our players with an opportunity to be seen by local college coaches.) Our day started fairly well, again, as we saw in our first game three days earlier against Niles West. We were able to spread the field and dictate the rhythm of play. Our central midfield was much more active in the attack that in the previous match, as Gio Guarnero and Zach Carbonara took 8 of our 20 shots on the day.
Our opening goal came as a result of our possession in the Bison’s defensive third, when Gio Guarnero was taken down in the box for a penalty, in the 34th minute. Klaus Pallan calmly finished the penalty kick, giving us the lead. The score remained 1-0 until the second half, when Caleb Orr would poke home a Kyle Owen attempt in the 43rd minute. Owen’s shot troubled the BG keeper and led to a rebound for Orr to pounce on. Twenty four minutes later, Pallan would seal the victory by slotting home his second goal of the match and fourth of the new season. Klaus has an easy time of it, as he received a terrific ball from Enrico Ruffolo, who played it across the BG six yard box directly to Pallan.
Alex Ruffolo earned his first shutout of the season, making one solid save during the first half.
