Recap

GAME SUMMARY

Our team started the game well, maintaining possession in the Niles West half of the field and controlling the tempo of the match.  Klaus Pallan opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a slight redirection of a great serve from Nash Pirie, coming from a free kick from 35-40 yards out.  For the next 20 minutes, we continued to play well, however Niles West also settled into the game better also.  In the 34th minute, Niles West attacked on a counter up the middle of the field, and with a fortunate deflection, the ball fell to one of their two players in on the counterattack, who slipped it into the far post from 16 yards away.

In the second half, we responded well and came out strong.  Klaus Pallan notched his second goal of the game just 4 minutes into the second half, breaking through the back line and gathering a superb ball from Caleb Orr.  Klaus chipped the adventurous Niles West keeper from 35 yards out.  Unfortunately, our lead lasted only 11 minutes, when Niles evened things up on a free kick of their own.  Their service was delivered just into the box where a NW player flicked it on to a teammate who was 8 yards from goal.  He placed his header attempt into the back of the net, to the right of Broncos goalkeeper Alex Ruffolo.  The go ahead goal for Niles West came 10 minutes later on a diving header to the near post.  The serve came from the left flank, after a failed clearance by the Broncos back line, and the Niles West attacker did extremely well to get to and finish his attempt at goal.  Ruffolo was able to get a hand to it, but the ball powered up and into the net off of his hand.  The 4th Niles West goal came in a similar manner to their second goal, only the service was from a corner kick.  Again, they flicked the entry ball, and it again fell directly to one of their players.  Credit to him for hitting a first time shot into the goal.

Overall, we played well in spots and just need to be better at defending flighted balls into our goal area.  Hopefully we will address those issues ahead of Friday’s MSL match vs. Buffalo Grove.
