GAME RECAP
After this game was postponed last night due to thunderstorms and lightning, we were able to resume it today with a 4:45pm start – although not without a short weather delay, again due to lightning.  Fortunately, the delay came before either team had started their warm-up preparations and we were still able to start almost exactly at the scheduled start time.

Elk Grove entered the game off of a Tuesday night loss to Wheeling by a score of 6-1.  Our Broncos were hoping to be able to hand the Grenadiers another MSL loss, and take three more points in the MSL table.  We expected to be the stronger team, and to have chances to break through their defensive lines, which we would, but nowhere near as frequently as our boys may have anticipated.

Perhaps a bit overconfident, our boys started a little sloppy, similarly to Tuesdays match at Conant.  Several players struggled with the wet pitch, after a short rainstorm had fallen just a few minutes before the match.  After a few errant passes and missed traps we did settle in and adjust, while never fully clicking on all cylinders.  Fortunately, in the 27th minute, Michael Horak buried another shot from well outside the Elk Grove goal area; his 4th goal in the last five games.  Then, just three minutes later, CJ Steib would double our lead, finishing a PK that he earned by being pushed to ground by the Grens netminder.  The 2-0 carried us into halftime.

In the second half we were unable to add to the lead and had to settle with the clean sheet and the 2-0 victory.  While we were a bit unimaginative on the offensive side of things, we remained quite stingy defensively, with Daniel Hesselbein facing only one shot on the day.  The shutout marks our fourth consecutive clean sheet, and fifth on the season.  Credit to all of the boys for the defensive effort for sure.

Our next game has us traveling to Fremd next Tuesday night, for a 7pm kickoff, and a match that will most certainly have major implications on the MSL West title race.  PLEASE COME OUT AND CHEER US ON!
