GAME RECAP

Games like tonight’s match at Hoffman Estates HS sometimes have “that feeling” where you can just sense that it’s going to be difficult to find your way to a win, and the three points that are so vital toward trying to win an MSL West crown.

After an opening quarter hour where we controlled every aspect of the game, and had a few good chances to take the lead but didn’t, Hoffman Estates slowly began to sense that they would be able to potentially take this game.  After the first half ended 0-0, the second half started a little scattered and in the 49th minute the Hawks capitalized on a counter-attack down the left side.

Knowing that we just needed one goal during regulation, we picked things up and started to step forward winning balls and creating chances.  (Scoring once would provide us not only with a chance to win the game in regulation, but also could add up to twenty minutes of overtime, since this was a conference game.)   Noah Sebens ignited several moments of improved play and was eventually rewarded for his work when he ran into the box and got on the end of a Colton Wever delivery.  Exhale.  We were level at 1-1 and had ten minutes left in regulation.

Klaus Pallan and Noah Sebens would each have shots come oh so close, but both were denied by the woodwork.  Regulation ended with the game still tied.

Five minutes into overtime, a great delivery from Enrico Ruffolo sent Michael Blanke in behind the Hoffman left back.  Blanke sped into the Hawks end, cut back to his left food and hammered the game winning goal into the back of the net.  Game over.  Broncos win!

It was definitely “one of those nights.”  Championship teams have to find ways to win, even when things are just coming together.  We did that tonight, and improved our MSL record to 4-0.  Well done guys!
